Hello friends—
It’s been a minute, so I thought I’d stop by with a little teaser about my latest project, reveries of a lush year in a troubled land — a book-length essay about a time when everything seemed to be straining to become something else, pushing limits, breaching boundaries in every sphere of life, the effects of which we are still feeling today.
Snippet—
Regarding form, it’s pure mashup — a memory collage of twenty-six moments, great and small, in which narrative conventions are broken, so to silence, transforming the latter into language and action, as the love-fuelled Lorde urged us so long ago. Following a favoured method, each piece contemplates a single point, though given our motifs, tends to a punctum or exorcises a revenant might’ve played better, and it does so for its own ends, joyous, painful, hurtful, ugly, but always truthful. (Of course, history rhymes, so making temporal connections is always possible, risking the hope and despair of spotting aureate threads glinting, stitching everything together.) Make of them what you will, but these are not purposeful fragments building toward some specific meaning or ending but are a string of touchstone moments, lodestars that chose me as much as I chose them. And now I give them to you. But not en masse; as they come to me, in flashes, bursts, and pieces.
I can’t say too much more right now, but make sure to check back and share this metamorphic year with me.
